美国华裔文学杂合语言回译研究——以《喜福会》中罗马化汉语拼音为例

On Back Translation of Language Hybridity of Chinese American Literary Works——A Case Study of the Romanized Chinese Pinyin in The Joy Luck Club

作为美国华裔文学的代表作,小说《喜福会》以其独特的叙事结构、中西合璧的叙事策略以及杂合的语言特色向读者艺术地展现了中西文化在碰撞和交流中逐渐走向融合的文化发展景观。语言杂合性,尤其是罗马化汉语拼音的使用,是这类作品的一大特色,反映了作者的多元文化价值观与深层的交际意图。运用认知语用学中的关联理论对杂合语言现象进行研究,能够比较科学地揭示语言形式与作者交际意图之间的内在关系。在回译时,译者应当保留原文的杂合语言特色,使话语本身与原作者的交际意图建立起最佳关联。这样的译本能为汉语读者展现更加真实、生动的族裔生活,更好体现语言的开放性,也更能顺应后现代多元化发展的趋势。

As a representative work of Chinese American literature,The Joy Luck Club,with its unique narrative structure,a combination of Chinese and Western narrative strategies and the peculiar style of language hybridity,shows us a prospect of integration between Chinese and American cultures.As a major characteristic,language hybridity shows both the writer′s embracement of cultural diversity and deep communicative intentions.An analysis of the discourse with the use of relevance theory reveals the intrinsic link between language forms and the writer′s deep communicative intentions.In the course of back translation,translators should preserve the original hybridity so as to seek optimal relevance between utterances and the writer′s intentions.Translations of this kind will provide Chinese readers access to a more real and vivid ethnic life,show the openness of language,and better conform to the trend of cultural diversity in the post-modern times.
