In the late 19 th century,under the influence of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels,many British intellectuals and activists of working class embarked on the socialist road.Some of them tried to adapt Marxism into the actual situation of Britain.Engels had close contacts with many British socialists in his later years,and guided them in theory and practice,which laid an important foundation for the establishment of political parties of the British working class.Marxism played an important role in the making of Fabian socialism,and it had a great influence on the British socialism all the time.
