Oriental Outlook Issue 11,2021 Huangpu,a district of Guangzhou in south China’s Guangdong Province,has served as beacon of influence in the history of navigation in China and the world.It once was one of the departure ports of the ancient Maritime Silk Road,connecting China and the rest of the world.In October 1950,it was rebuilt and the port area was expanded.In 1984,it was selected as the main region of the Guangzhou Development District,becoming a bridgehead for the country’s reform and opening-up drive.
