【First Language Acquisition】First language(L1)acquisition is characteristically rapid.Most structures of the target language are acquired within the first five years of life(Fry,1977)(although vocabulary acquisition and the acquisition of some structures may continue into later years).L1 acquisition is successful:children end up having the same grammatical knowledge(more or less)as the speakers around them.L1 acquisition is inevitable:children cannot choose not to learn the language spoken around them(as they can choose not to learn to play football,or not to learn to ride a bike).
