Variation is one of the important means of musical development.In the process of musical development,composers recur to variations to progressively change original materials.As variations become gradually more diverse,the structure and form of compositions thus created become increasingly complex.Polyphonic variation,one among many other forms of musical variation,may be regarded as different in every respect due to its particular way of upholding musical texture.
