Rooted in Tradition and Transformed into Modernization:The Evolution of Library Design in Wuhan over the Past Hundred Years

近百年来武汉地区图书馆建筑的发展历程可视为中国建筑在西方建筑思潮影响下走向现代化的一个缩影。早期的图书馆受西方影响,采用近代新功能和新技术,同时沿袭古典建筑形式;新时期的图书馆建筑应用现代手法,也积极探索着对传统和地域性的新表达。该文对武汉地区图书馆建筑类型演变进行研究与分析,以期对当代中国建筑实践提供参考与启示。

The development of library design in Wuhan over the past hundred years is a microcosm of the modernization of Chinese architecture under the influence of western architectural thoughts. Early libraries followed the classical architectural form while applying modern new functions and new technologies. In the opening new era, under the combined influence of western modern and post-modern trends of thought, library has had a new expression of modern spirit and its own tradition. Through the study and analysis of the evolution of library buildings in Wuhan over the past hundred years, we can get new inspiration for contemporary Chinese architecture.
