Techno-Scientific Civilization,Eco-Civilization and Ways of Teaching Thinking:An Interview with Academician Xie Heping

The Column of"Transdisciplinary Top Interview with Academicians"aims to explore future-oriented issues in science,technology and humanities.This interview with Professor Xie Heping,an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and former President of Sichuan University,focuses on issues such as techno-scientific civilization,ecocivilization,and ways of teaching thinking.Prof.Xie believes that Chinese techno-scientific civilization,with thousands of years of history,is an important part of the world history of science and technology.At present,to embrace both opportunities and challenges for Chinese scientists and researchers in striving for scientific and technological innovation,China must fully leverage institutional advantages,establish and improve the legal system and enforcement mechanisms of scientific and technological ethics,and build a system of"techno-scientific economics of the new era",as an innovative theoretical supplement to traditional economics.Prof.Xie points out that solving energy crises and ecological problems through technological innovation is an inter-disciplinary,inter-industry and multi-dimensional"Green Revolution".Ecological progress is the foundation and guarantee for a community with a shared future for mankind,and it runs through the whole process of economic,political,cultural and social development to make China\s contribution to the fulfillment of the ecological dream of unity of Human and Nature.Prof.Xie also insists on revitalizing the humanistic imperative in higher education,attaching importance to values-oriented ways of teaching thinking,and implementing technoethics and eco-ethics cultivation in the teaching practice.
