JuanXizhai's Scattered Poem Collection·Guimao has six chapters.It was compiled and edited by Ma Yifu when he was on a study tour in the United States in 1903.His creation was influenced by personal circumstances and social environment-an indication of the features of the time.On the other hand,chance encounters in the United States prompted Ma Yifu to bring about changes in the tradition.His poems and essays have always been patriotic.His poems turned from wanderer's solitary recital to patriotism along with changes in his train of thoughts.The sense of solitude displayed in Ma Yifu's poem creation in the year of Guimao was elevated from personal feelings of life experienee to a scholar's responsibility in caring for the fate of his nation at that time-a kind of spiritual solitude arising from the pursuit of"sageliness within,kingliness withouf".He expressed emotions in his poems,exhibiting characteristics of"solitude turning to the concerns for the rise and fall of a nation".
