唐孝威曾在我国"两弹一星"的研制中作出过突出贡献,并曾带领实验组参加丁肇中领导的MARK-J、L3国际实验合作组的实验工作,两组皆有重要发现。在数十年的科学生涯中,他在高能物理、原子核物理、核技术应用、生物物理、核医学、脑科学、神经信息学等多个领域均有建树,著作等身,是一位在多个领域驰骋的通才科学家。
