The modernist trends in Hong Kong in the 1950 s has influenced the two fields of literature and art, of which Wucius Wong is representative, combining the confluence of modernist poetry and painting, as one of the originators of modern poetry in the 1950 s Hong Kong as well as a representative of the innovative ink paintings. The transcendental vision of looking at the earth from the sky, in his early poem,‘Spring, 1957, Hong Kong’, is a key to understand his modern poetry and also a structural element in unifying the Chinese and Western styles of his paintings. The border-crossing interaction of literature and aesthetics, the interweaving of the trends of the modernist world with the urban arts of Hong Kong have provided Wucius Wong’s modernist art practice with a thwart transplantation as well as a vertical inheritance.
