汉学家傅汉思的汉诗英译方法研究

A Study of Methodology as Applied by Sinologist Hans Hermann Frankel in His English Translation of Chinese Poetry

德裔美籍汉学家傅汉思在国外的中国古典文学研究领域有开创性贡献,这主要体现在其将德国古典语文传统和英美新批评细读方法运用到中国古典诗歌的阐释和批评中。这些方法也见于其诗歌翻译中。在《梅花与宫闱佳丽》一书中,他通过注释、解读、附录等形式为译诗构建了丰富的语境;他立足文本,用细读法分析诗歌的结构特点、意象的象征意义和相互关系;翻译时则着力保留原文的语言形式和意象,再现汉语诗歌的文学性。该书中蕴涵的诗歌翻译思想对我国古诗外译有一定的借鉴价值。

Hans Hermann Frankel,a German-American sinologist,has made a pioneering contribution to the study of classical Chinese literature overseas as he has applied the English and American new critical approach of close reading to the interpretation and critique of classical Chinese poetry.Such a methodology has also been present in his translation of poetry.In his book,The Flowering Plum and the Palace Lady:Interpretations of Chinese Poetry,he has built a rich context for the translation of poetry through annotations,interpretation and appendices.Based on the text,he takes an approach of close reading to the structural features,symbolic significance of images and their mutual relationship,and,when engaged in translation,he endeavours to keep the form and images of the source language while representing the literariness of the Chinese poetry.The thoughts on translation of poetry contained in the book have the value of borrowing to a certain degree to the researchers into the translation in foreign languages of ancient Chinese poetry in China.
