By way of group historical psychology,Professor Patricia P.Chu has constructed the return narrative in Asian American literature, with a view towards the mechanism of ethnic psychology, historical writing and the roles of memory in the process of mutual displacement by Asians from across the ocean. As a Chinese American scholar,Professor Chu pays particular attention to the study of Chinese American literature in the American context, promoting a comparative reading of Chinese American literature with that of other ethnic American literatures and mastering the interaction of Chinese American writers with historical as well as literary trends from the starting point of similarity,so that vitality can be obtained from outside the angles of culture and aesthetics. The interview involves such concrete issues as the narrative skills of Asian American literature, selection of genres, research methodology, history and the roles of memory, ethnic studies, the positioning of Chinese American literature and the Asian American community, providing new lines of thought for the study of Chinese American literature in the context of China.
