This article offers a systematic analysis of the connotations and causes of erotic love in the Song of the Garden in Son.4:12-5:1.In the text,the“garden”is a poetic representation of a female body and of sexual union,describing love as sincere and warm,equal and free,magnanimous and generous,faithful and chaste.The poem is to some extent influenced by Ancient Near Eastern love poems,and its emotional connotations are closely related to Eden,the Sacred Space,in the Hebrew Bible.The compilation period of the Song and contemporary prophetic literature,which reflects the love of divine covenant between God and Israel through the love of marital covenant between man and woman,give the Hebrew poets a greater range of faith expressions and of national expectation for the type of faithful marriage contained in the garden.
