Post-traumatic stress disorder(PTSD)is associated with sleep disorders and impairment of learning and memory in the extinction of conditioned fear. After a traumatic event, sleep disorders, such as insomnia, nightmares, and fragmented REM sleep, predict the subsequent development of PTSD symptoms. The sleep disorders caused by the acute trauma may result in failure of continuation and generalization of memories, which may develop and perpetuate the symptoms of PTSD.This paper reviewed the relationship between sleep disorders, memory impairment, and PTSD.It is believed that the topic of consolidation and damaged generalization of fading memory due to sleep disorders is still important in studying the neural mechanism of PTSD in the future.
