A Study of the Art of Verbal Irony in The Story of Abbas-From the Perspective of Relevance Theory

在诗歌《阿巴斯的故事》中,诗人艾哈迈德·玛塔尔善于运用各种语言符号、内涵名称和形容词来凸显言语反讽在文学话语中的有效作用。而关联理论认为,应从读者理解作者或诗人意图的心理过程来推导诗歌效果。以Sperber与Wilson的关联理论为理论依据,从明示推理与最佳关联两个不同的层面深入探讨著名诗人艾哈迈德·玛塔尔《阿巴斯的故事》中的词汇反讽与隐性回声共鸣等言语反讽艺术,以此揭示诗人想要传达的信息。

In the Story of Abbas,the poet Ahmad Mattar is good at using various linguistic symbols,connotative names and adjectives to highlight the effective role of verbal irony in literary discourse.According to Relevance Theory,poetry effect should be derived from the psychological process of readers'understanding of the author’s intention.From the two different levels of ostensive reasoning and optimal relevance,this paper discusses the verbal irony and implicit echo resonance in the story of Abbas by the famous poet Ahmad Mattar,based on Relevance Theory of Sperber and Wilson,in order to reveal the message the poet wants to convey.
