Translation of a Character's Personality from George Steiner's Hermeneutic Motions:A Case Study of the Description of Lin Dai-yu's Personality in David Hawkes'English Translated Version The Story of the Stone

以绍兴文理学院《红楼梦》汉英平行语料库为检索工具,在乔治·斯坦纳的阐释学翻译理论指导下,通过研究《红楼梦》中霍克斯英译本中对林黛玉性格表达的英译,展示了斯坦纳阐释学理论在霍译《红楼梦》中的充分体现,探索了如何保证原文语言文化与译文语言文化之间的平衡,旨在促进中国文学与文化的弘扬与传播。

Under the guidance of George Steiner's hermeneutic motions,the present paper studies the English translated version's description of Lin Dai-yu's personality in David Hawkes'English translated version of Hong Lou Meng,namely The Story of the Stone,demonstrates the application of George Steiner's hermeneutic motions in Hawkes'English translated version of Hong Lou Meng,and explores how to balance the original culture and the target culture to promote the spread of Chinese literature and culture based on a Chinese-English parallel corpus of Hong Lou Meng.
