Correlation between Facial Attractiveness and Various Facial Areas in Male Patients Assessed by Orthodontists and Laypersons

目的:研究分析由正畸医师和非专业人士评估男性患者面部吸引力与面部各部位之间的相关性。方法:8名正畸医师和8名非专业人士采用视觉模拟量表通过正面、侧面和正面微笑照片评估100例成年男性正畸患者的面部吸引力。采用Pearson相关系数和逐步回归分析计算面部吸引力与面部各部位之间的相关性。结果:当正畸医师评估时,面部吸引力与嘴唇(r=0.783)、眼睛(r=0.649)、颏部(r=0.529)、头发(r=0.519)、鼻子(r=0.314)和牙齿(r=0.287)之间存在显著相关性;逐步回归分析发现,61.3%的面部吸引力的变化是由嘴唇决定的,10.5%是由眼睛决定的,0.7%是由颏部决定的。当非专业人士评估时,面部吸引力与颏部(r=0.762)、眼睛(r=0.680)、嘴唇(r=0.618)、头发(r=0.539)、牙齿(r=0.482)和鼻子(r=0.263)之间存在显著相关性;逐步回归分析发现,58.0%的面部吸引力的变化是由颏部决定的,8.6%是由眼睛决定的。结论:当正畸医师评估时,嘴唇对面部吸引力的贡献最大;而当非专业人士评估时,颏部贡献最大。无论是正畸医师还是非专业人士的评估,牙齿对面部吸引力的贡献均明显小于嘴唇和颏部。

Objective This study aims to analyze the correlation between facial attractiveness and various facial areas assessed by orthodontists and laypersons.Methods The attractiveness of 100 adult patients with their frontal,lateral,and frontal smiling photos,before orthodontic treatment,was assessed by 8 laypersons and 8 orthodontists using a visual analog scale.The Pearson correlation coefficient and stepwise regression were used to calculate the correlation between facial attractiveness and various facial areas.Results When assessed by orthodontists,a significant correlation was found between facial attractiveness and the lips(r=0.783),eyes(r=0.649),chin(r=0.529),hair(r=0.519),nose(r=0.314),and teeth(r=0.287).The lips were responsible for 61.3%of the variation in facial attractiveness,the eyes for 10.5%,and the chin for 0.7%.When assessed by laypersons,a significant correlation was found between facial attractiveness and the chin(r=0.762),eyes(r=0.680),lips(r=0.618),hair(r=0.539),teeth(r=0.482),and nose(r=0.263),the chin was responsible for 58.0%of the variation in facial attractiveness,and the eyes for 8.6%.Conclusion When orthodontists evaluate,the lips contribute the most to facial attractiveness,and when laypersons evaluate,the chin contributes the most.Whether in the evaluation of orthodontists or laypersons,the contribution of teeth to facial attractiveness is significantly less than that of the lips and chin.
