Welcome to the special issue on Pac迅cVAST 2018,held on 10 April 2018 in Kobe,Japan.PacificVAST has been held annually since 2013 as an international workshop on visual analytics in conjunction with IEEE PacificVis symposia.Visual analytics(VA)is a discipline concerned with science and technology for analytical reasoning supported by interactive visual interfaces.Breaking from the process of the past five years of inviting prominent researchers to share their state-of-the-art research and development results,PacificVAST this year launches a new publishing model intended to foster a stronger VA community in the Asia-Pacific region:All accepted,original papers are published in a special issue of the Elsevier Journal of Visual Informatics on the day of the workshop.
