张锡临证应用半夏经验丰富,认为半夏辛温下行,善降逆气,为降胃安冲之要药,故能止呕吐,引肺中、胃中湿痰下行,纳气定喘,治胃气上逆、吐血、衄血等。张锡纯用药不落窠臼,认为咳嗽痰中带血者宜忌其辛燥之性,而对于吐衄不止者半夏可收一时之功。尤重半夏的炮制方法,提出清半夏之矾味多令人呕不宜降胃,故对于呕逆之症必以温水淘洗数次,对于重症、急症者常以自制半夏治之。其《医学衷中参西录》一书中详论半夏药性、主治范围、用法及注意事项,为后世医家拓展用药思路提供了理论依据。

ZHANG Xi-chun has rich clinical experience in the application of Pinellia Ternata.It is believed that Pinellia is good at reducing adverse Qi,and it is an important medicine of Jiangwei Anchong,so it can stop vomiting,downstream dampness phlegm in the lung and stomach,improve inspiration to relieve asthma,and can cure the stomach Qi upward,haematemesis and epistaxis.ZHANG’s medication is not out of the pattern.It is suggested that it should be avoided to use Pinellia when coughing with blood in sputum,but vomiting blood can.ZHANG attaches great importance to the processing method of Pinellia ternate.It is projected that Pinellia ternate in drugstore is easy to vomit because of its strong alum taste.Therefore,when treating vomiting,it is necessary to wash several times with warm water.For critical patients,often with ZHANG’s own production of Pinellia treatment.In the book"Yi Xue Zhong Zhong Can Xi Lu”,the medicinal properties,indications,usage and precautions of Pinellia ternata are discussed in detail,which expanded the medication ideas and theoretical basis for later doctors.
