An Analysis of Female Image and Female Consciousness in Hemingway's Novels

Hemingway is famous for his unique style of writing and"tough man image",but the female image in his works is controversial.There are three types of typical female images in his works:struggling women who are initially awakened but oppressed by patriarchal society;angel women who strictly follow patriarchal cultural and moral norms,and witches who dare to challenge male authority.Hemingway's attitude towards them is sympathy,praise and criticism in turn.From his complex female consciousness,we can see Hemingway's great concern and deep thinking about women.He has always been exploring the way of men and women to get along with each other.Independent and harmonious coexistence is his ideal relationship between men and women.
