Vietnamese envoys on errand of paying tribute to the Qing Dynasty left many manuscripts in Chinese about the Yellow River in the 18—19th Century.Since the capital city of the Qing Dynasty is Yan,namely燕,now Beijing, the literature left by envoys to the Qing Dynasty is generally called Yeonhaen literature. Most of the Yeonhaen literature were written in forms of poetry of 5 or 7-character lines, presenting the gorgeous landscape and rich culture along the Yellow River. In these writings, the river is alternatively grand, alarmingly dangerous, solemn, tranquil, and pleasant. They also eloquently revealed the abstract cultural connotations represented by the river, such as peace all over the empire,awe-inspiring spirit of righteousness, and the symbol of Chinese root and soul, vividly demonstrated the rich Confucian cultural literacy of the ancient Vietnamese intellectuals and their identification with the historical culture of the Central Plains represented by the Heluo culture.
