The modernity of calligraphy is an enduring topic in circles of contemporary calligraphy and how to“modernize”calligraphy is also an issue that contemporary calligraphers should collectively explore.By tracing back to its philosophical background and contemporary field of modernity,this essay clarifies the contradiction and commonalities between calligraphy and modernity and thus to find the possible path for the modernity of calligraphy by comparing the advantages and disadvantages of enlightenment modernity,aesthetic modernity and post-modernity.
