In 2019, Hadestown was put on stage at Broadway and achieved a great success. The play made by a team of women is not only a milestone of women’s success in the theatre, but it also should be considered as a paragon of the women’s theatre. However, it does not seem to be the typical women’s theatre;instead, the influence of women is hidden behind its external theme and form. The team of women transcends the limit of the women’s theatre and integrates women’s unique characteristics into the creation of the play, thus bringing vitality to the women’s theatre. The present article explores how women influence the play from the three perspectives of the creation process, the stage presentation and the theatrical philosophy, and attempts to find the new trend of contemporary American women’s theatre.
