Interpreting the Humorous and Ironic Language Style Based on the Violation of Cooperative Principle:Taking the Conversation of Characters in Pride and Prejudice as an Example

为达到有效交流的目的,在言语交际中应遵循合作原则。英国女作家简·奥斯汀的小说《傲慢与偏见》以幽默讽刺的语言风格著称,然而其幽默讽刺效果的产生常常以违反合作原则为前提。从合作原则的质量、数量、相关和方式四大准则入手,详细分析了《傲慢与偏见》小说中人物会话是如何通过对合作原则的违反而产生幽默讽刺效果的,并解读了人物会话背后的潜在含义。

In order to achieve the purpose of effective communication,the principle of cooperation should be followed in verbal communication.Pride and Prejudice,a novel written by Jane Austen,is famous for its humorous and ironic language style.However,its humorous and ironic effect is often based on the premise of violating the cooperative principle.Starting with the quality,quantity,relevance and mode of the cooperative principle,this paper analyzes in detail how the language in Pride and Prejudice violates the cooperative principle to produce the humorous and ironic effect and interprets the potential meaning behind the conversation of the characters.
