On the Artistic Style of Xue Feng’s Poems in the Late Tang Dynasty

晚唐诗坛,苟臻妙境,各自成趣。薛逢是晚唐诗人之一,后人多言其诗歌意态轩举,笔力亦健,在一众清峭枯寂中如置黄钟大吕,于晚唐鲜少见之。陶臣诗题材内容广泛,涉及宫廷宴会、山水优游、田园乡村等。语词流宕,继乐天之清浅;镂玉雕琼,复承温李之华赡,呈现出中晚唐诗人的群体性特征。此外,薛逢又具有鲜明的个性特征,其才学优赡,得中高第,然始终官居末流,形成矛盾复杂的创作心理。其诗多以雄浑劲健为主,间有平和放逸之语,这两种截然不同的审美意境在他身上得到交融与统一;加以其独特的个人际遇,呈现出情韵激切、文辞朗丽、意境邈远的诗歌艺术风貌。研究薛逢诗歌对研究晚唐中小诗人创作特色及晚唐诗坛多元艺术风貌,具有独特的意义。

In the late Tang Dynasty, poems had reached the level of excellence and poets had formed their own characteristics.Xue Feng was one of them, and in the eyes of later generations of critics his poems were dignified in mood and vigorous in writing, were like resonant sounds of grand bells in solitude, which is rare in late Tang Dynasty.Xue Taochen’s poetry covered the comprehensive themes such as court banquets, traveling, countryside and so on.Inheriting Bai Juyi’s explicit and easy style, his wording was fluent and uninhibited;and his distinct and well-conceived style had reproduced Wen and Li’s exquisite diction;and all these had shown the group characteristics of poets in the middle and late Tang Dynasty.In addition, Xu Feng had his distinct personality characteristics.He was talented in learning and got a good place in the imperial examination.But he only played a minor role in the officialdom in his life, which helped form a contradictory and complex creative psychology.Most of his poems are vigorous, and there were still some gentle, unrestrained and easy ones.These two distinctive aesthetic conceptions had been blended and integrated by him.Due to his unique personal experiences, he had formed a poetic artistic style of intense sentiment, brilliant diction and profound artistic conception.It is distinctively significant to study the creation characteristics of minor poets and the diversified artistic styles of poets in the late Tang Dynasty.
