许季上身世及佛学思想考论

Xu Jishang's Life Experience and Buddhist Thought

许季上在佛教文化整理与佛教教育的推广方面,最有价值和需要考辩的工作一是赴印度考察学艺教育,二是参加和组织中日密教研究会的学术活动,三是协助徐蔚如整理刊刻佛教典籍。在佛学观念上,许季上对佛教在世道人心的建设方面所具有的积极意义,抱持着坚定的信心;他推举真言密教文化,强调要对其"略其行迹,寻其归系",突出弘法大师入唐求法的大愿心与大人格,目的在于恢复和激活自己民族的一种曾经失传了的文化传统,力图在一个特殊时代里坚持中国文化的主体性。许季上在指导鲁迅学佛上不仅有所计划,而且有所挑选。鲁迅去世时,许季上的悼亡诗情深义重,潜意识中也是以鲁迅学佛之引路人自许。

Xu Jishang’s most valuable and disputable work in the collation of Buddhist culture and the promotion of Buddhist education is to go to India to investigate the education of Buddhist arts,to participate in and organize the academic activities of Sino-Japanese Association of Esoteric Buddhist Studies,and to help Xu Weiru collate and print Buddhist classics.In terms of the concept of Buddhism,Xu had firm confidence in the positive significance of Buddhism in promoting love and morality in the world.He promoted the culture of Shingon esoteric Buddhism,stressed the need to trace its origin,highlighted the great willingness of Kobo Daishi to seek dharma in Tang Dynasty,with the purpose of restoring and activating a lost cultural tradition of his own nation and trying to uphold the subjectivity of Chinese culture in a special era.Xu Jishang had well planned and optioned in guiding Lu Xun to study Buddhism.When Lu Xun died,Xu’s mourning poem conveyed profound friendship,revealing his pride in leading him to study Buddhism.
