Recently, a great attention has been paid to the works of Sui Sin Far. Most of the domestic studies, however, place her outside American literature. This paper, from historical and cultural perspective, contends that while her works exemplify her strong ethnic identity, they are also an integrated part of American literature. The dual characteristics found in her works add to the American literature cultural elements unique in American culture. In addition, Sui Sin Far is remembered for her pride of being Chinese and her courage to promote traditional Chinese culture amidst the Western cultural hegemony.
