摘要
《金山》以双重叙事视角,复杂化了小说题旨。面对西方读者讲述中国故事时,小说着力渲染东方的神秘、奇异与怪诞,掉入东方主义"传奇化"的陷阱,暗藏"自我东方化"意蕴。同时,小说又以中国经济崛起为心理支撑,颠覆了东方学者叙境中"被拯救""被征服"的中国形象,而以雄强、彪悍的"拯救者"与"征服者"的形象代替之。因而,《金山》又包涵着"反东方化"的"中国意识"。相较于文学史上的"留学生文学"及"新移民文学"偏重海外华人身份认同的文学书写,《金山》的人物关系和命运走向、结局,则传达出"你中有我,我中有你"东西融合的世界性及跨文化、跨种族经验,暗示着正在生长的中国意识。
Gold Mountain Blues,in a double-narrative angle,complicates the theme of the novel.Telling its Chinese story to a Western audience,it tries its best to mystify the Orient by making it exotic and strange,thus falling into the legendary pit of Orientalism,with the hidden implication of self-orientalization at the same time when the novel,propped by the economic rise of China,subverts the Chinese image in the Orientalist narrative context of the saved and the conquered,by replacing them with the images of powerful and tough saviours and conquerors.For this reason,Gold Mountain Blues also contains the Chinese consciousness of anti-Orientalization.Compared with literary writings in the history of literature or those biased towards the identity of overseas Chinese in Overseas Student Literature and New Migrant Literature,Gold Mountain Blues,in the relationship and fateful destinies,and conclusions of its characters,shows a cosmopolitanism that combines you and I in one and a cross-cultural and cross-ethnic experience,implying a growing Chinese consciousness.
