著名华裔女作家聂华苓,已96岁高龄,极少接受外界的采访。在聂华苓女儿王晓蓝女士的帮助下,通过电邮多次的隔空采访,完成了这篇极为珍贵的访谈录。她谈到自己一生从大陆去台湾,后又到美国三个时空的生命体验与文学创作。她特别讲到:我一生写的都是"中国人"的主题。她还谈到在爱荷华大学与保罗·安格尔创建"国际写作计划"与"中国周末"的初衷与过程,谈及用英文写作《沈从文评传》的始末。从访谈中,读者会更深刻理解到:聂华苓为什么会享有"世界文学组织之母"的美誉。

Hualing Nieh Engle,a well-known overseas Chinese woman writer,now aged 96,rarely takes any interviews these days.With the help of Ms Wang Xiaolan,daughter of Hualing Nieh Engle,I interviewed her by email on many occasions till this priceless interview was finished.In the interview,she talks about her lifetime experience in time and space of three lives and literary writing from when she first went to Taiwan from mainland to when she went to the United States of America,especially stressing the fact that she has spent all her life writing about the Chinese.In addition,she also talks about the initial intentions about and the process of the International Writing Program and the Chinese Weekend,created together with Paul Engle at the University of Iowa.She also talks about how she wrote A Critical Biography of Shen Tsung-wen,in English.This interview helps the readers understand on a deeper level of why Hualing Nieh Engle enjoys the reputation of Mother of a World Literary Organization.
