周瘦鹃小说的现代性元素解析

作为鸳鸯蝴蝶派的代表人物,周瘦鹃的作品曾被打上迎合读者心理、充斥低级趣味的印记。实际上,他的创作并不是单纯追求才子佳人的爱情故事,也不以迎合读者趣味为唯一的价值取向。他的创作同情社会底层劳动人民,思考男女不平等社会问题,构想现代家庭伦理,具有当时知识分子的进步意识和自省精神。周瘦鹃用白话文创作小说,先于"五四"新文学家们革新小说叙事视角、小说结构等写作技巧。他的小说从主题到叙事都包含一定的现代性元素。

Zhou Shoujuan is a representative figure of the"mandarin duck and butterfly school";his works were once marked with catering to the readers'psychology and full of vulgar tastes.In fact,his works do not simply pursue the love stories of talents and beauties,nor do they cater to the interests of readers as the only value orientation.He showed sympathy to the working people at the bottom of the society,thought about the social inequality between men and women,and conceived of modern family ethics,which had the progressive consciousness and introspection spirit of the intellectuals at that time.Zhou Shoujuan created novels in vernacular Chinese,which preceded the innovation of novel narrative perspectives,novel structure and other writing techniques by the new writers of the May 4th Movement.His novels contain certain elements of modernity both in theme and narrative.
