摘要
1939年建成的中环街市是香港现代主义建筑的重要代表作之一,如今正进行保育和活化。文章通过比较分析活化设计方案与原初建筑空间,以及检视活化项目流程的各个环节,指出中环街市原有的空间品质遭到破坏,揭示了保育活化项目中持份者对于现代主义建筑的基本价值之一,即"空间-结构"的认识不足,并认为它是中环街市未得到充分保育的原因之一。继而呼吁需将"空间-结构"作为现代主义建筑保育与活化中的重要考量。
The Central Market,built in 1939,is one of the most important pieces of modernist architectu re in Hong Kong and is currently undergoing conservation and revitalization.Through a comparative analysis of the revitalization design and the original building,as well as a review of various aspects of the revitalization process,this paper points out that the original spatial quality of the Central Market has been disrupted,reveals that stakeholders involved in the project are not sufficiently aware of one of the fundamental values of modern architecture——the space-struture,and suggests that it is one of the reasons why the Central Market has not been adequately conserved.It then advocates that space-structure needs to be the primary consideration for the conservation and revitalization of modernist architecture.
