《德国的哲学与政治》收录的是1915年2月杜威在北卡罗来纳大学开设的三场系列讲座的讲稿。杜威在这本小册子中处理了德国古典哲学与德国政治之间的关系问题。此书虽然篇幅较短,但它却是印证杜威在一战期间思想转型的重要作品,也是将杜威思想和现实政治联系最为紧密的作品之一。《德国的哲学与政治》的论述起点是德国古典哲学和德国政治实践之间的关系,看似处理的是“德国问题”,但其落点却远远超出了“德国问题”的范围,指向了美国的现实和未来。

German Philosophy and Politics contains three lectures John Dewey gave at the University of North Carolina in February 1915. Dewey discussed the relationship between German classical philosophy and German politics in this pamphlet. Although this pamphlet is short in length,it shows Dewey’s ideological transformation during World War Ⅰ,and it is one of the most important works connecting Dewey’s thought with practical politics. Dewey mainly talked about the relationship between German classical philosophy and German practical politics,which seems to deal with "Germany". However,his focus is far beyond "Germany",but the reality and future of the United States.
