There was a“binding”step in the communication cycle of European commercial publishing from the 16 th century, and binding mainly reflected the content of publishing and marketing instead of printing.Binding also existed in China s commercial publishing from the mid-and late-Ming Dynasty to the beginning of Qing Dynasty, typically in terms of popular fiction books.Binding was an inevitable result of the-then commercial publishing and book trade. From the comparative perspective of binding,we can renew our understanding of the boom in commercial publishing from the mid-and late-Ming Dynasty to the beginning of Qing Dynasty, and discover the truth behind the complicated document and textual issues about popular fictions.
