The emotional power of Nobel Prize winner Kazuo Ishiguro s novels largely stems from his cross-media musical narration, that is,Ishiguro goes beyond the standard of text medium to pursue the aesthetic effect and narrative energy of musical medium. In Kazuo Ishiguro s novels, narrative form and structure are also thoughts, implying the ideological motivation and emotional momentum of narrative strategies. The extant studies on the musicality of Ishiguro s novels mostly focus on one of his works. Jumping out of the limitations of existing researches of focusing on Ishiguro s single novel, this paper, based on many of his novels, seeks to examine how by employing Polyphony and Musical forms in musical composition theory and making use of the heterogeneous isomorphism between the dynamic structure of music and the structure of human emotion, Ishiguro prompts text medium and music medium complement each other, represents the formal beauty of changes and unity in music, and thereby reaches the isomorphism of narrative structure and theme in his novels. Kazuo Ishiguro s cross-media musical narration shows the unique value of literature and music as two artistic media that complement each other and bring out the best in each other.
