A Study of the Meaning of “Respect” in the Context of the Analects of Confucius

“敬”是中国文化传统的典范价值理念之一,《论语》是中国传统文化生成的重要源泉,从《论语》文本出发,对“敬”的特征、形式和功用进行探究,对“敬”与“君子”“孝”“仁”“达”等关系进行探讨,可以帮助我们重新理解《论语》中“敬”之本来面貌。从“敬”义维度对《论语》进行重新阐发可以丰富《论语》文化价值的研究角度,可以对“敬”义之源头有所掘发。

“Respect”is one of the typical values of Chinese cultural tradition,and the Analects of Confucius is an important source of Chinese traditional culture.Starting from the text of the Analects of Confucius,this paper explores the characteristics,forms and functions of“respect”,and discusses the relationship between“respect”and“gentleman”,“filial piety”,“benevolence”and“Da”,which can help us to reunderstand the original appearance of“respect”in“Analects of Confucius”.To reinterpret the“Analects of Confucius”from the dimension of“respect”can enrich the research angle of the cultural value of the Analects of Confucius,and explore the source of the meaning of“respect”.
