从时代的视角审视字体——希腊古风时代至中世纪晚期

Viewing Typeface in a Time Manner: From Archaic Greece to Late Medieval Times

本文从时代发展的角度出发,以西文字体为研究对象,讨论了从希腊古风时代直至中世纪晚期具有代表性的几种字体类型。为了使字体与所属时代建立起更加直观的联系,本文以电影海报这种既需要使用字体又需要体现时代内容的平面设计体裁为例,探讨字体与时代,从而使人能够更加形象地体会按时代选择字体这一字体使用的基本要求。

This paper focuses on the perspective of time, reviewing several typical typefaces from archaic Greece to late Medieval times. To ensure an intuitional connection between typeface and its time, instances of film posters were applied for the reflection of time and the presentation of typeface are dual attributes for film posters. Hopefully the readers can make sense of why choosing typeface in a time manner is a basic requirement for the usage of type.
