A Comparative Study on the Two English Versions of The Art of War from Functional Translation Theory

在《孙子兵法》诸多英译本之中,以林戊荪与贾尔斯的版本影响力最广。基于两个译本的对比研究,通过德国功能翻译理论视角来探讨在《孙子兵法》翻译中的目的法则、篇内一致法则和忠诚法则应用,以文化视角和语言应用的角度在案例分析中提出相关策略,旨在更好地在对外文化宣传和交流中弘扬中国传统文化。

Among the many English translation versions of The Art of War,the versions of Lin Wusun and Giles are the most influential.Based on two English versions,this paper attempts to analyze the rule of purpose,the rule of consistency and the rule of faithfulness in the translations of The Art of War from German Functional Translation Theory,and propose relevant strategies in the case analysis from the perspective of cultural and language applications so as to smooth China’s international cultural publicity and carry forward traditional Chinese culture.
