The Ethics Foundation of University Governance:From Good Governance to Ultimate Good

大学治理不能忽视伦理基础。《大学》中所提出的"在明明德,在亲民,在止于至善"具有普遍的现实意义和积极的时代价值。追求卓越的价值导向和止于至善的理想高度契合。在科技迅猛发展、全球化不可逆转的大趋势下,"至善"的内涵不断丰富,也需要理论和实践来关注和丰富。在知识转移、知识创价和知识价值革命成为大学新兴话语的背景下,大学治理面临着新的挑战和问题。大学治理现代化不是外在于大学目的的工具性的现代化。治理体系现代化和治理能力现代化,最终依靠人的现代化来推动。人的现代化和"止于至善"是一个永无止境的过程。大学治理要检讨现实问题和症候,需树立和强化"从善治到至善"的理念。

Ethical issues matter in university governance.In Chinese classical work Higher Learning,the ultimate good was connected to two ethical and social aspects,which were thinking of and exercising morality,and cultivating and improving the society.It is still of significance in the current situation.The new narrative striving for excellence has much to do with Chinese discourse"pursuing the ultimate good".In the time when the scientific revolution takes place rapidly and the globalization is the main trend which could not be reversed,the connotation of ultimate good is in transition.While the knowledge transfer,knowledge value-adding,knowledge value revolution are embraced,university governance faces great challenges.The modern man is the first drive and the important power to the modernization of university governance.Pursuing ultimate good is an endless process.Therefore,university governance should take the stance from good governance to the ultimate good.
