From urban evolution to architectural renewal:interview on the renovation design of Longfu Mansion

有着近六百年历史的隆福寺曾是北京的传统商圈之一,街区由繁盛到衰落、又从衰落到复兴的过程,是记录北京城市发展的重要样本,历时七年完成的隆福大厦改造项目(包括附属的一商园区改造)则是当代北京旧城更新的典型案例之一。在实现城市历史街区复兴的同时,还保留了城市生活和记忆的能量,展现了城市作为有机体在进化演变中的生命力。本次访谈不仅介绍了隆福大厦改造项目的相关信息,更试图呈现北京旧城更新的复杂性,以及在政策导向和业主支持下建筑师的设计探索。

Longfu Temple Area, with a history of nearly 600 years, was one of the traditional business districts in Beijing. The process of this area from prosperity to fading, and then to revival, is an important sample to record the development of Beijing. The renovation of Longfu Mansion(including its surrounding businesses) completed in seven years is one of the typical cases of the city renewal of Beijing. While realizing the revival of Beijing historical blocks, it retains urban life and historical memory, and shows the vitality of the city as an organism in evolution. This interview not only introduces the relevant information of the renovation of Longfu Mansion, but also tries to show the complexity of the city renewal of Beijing and the design exploration of architects under the guidance of policy and the support of owners.
