The ecological rule of law theory in Xi Jinping’s thought mainly emerges from Marxist ecological view, Chinese traditional ecological wisdom, Mao Zedong’s ecological thought and socialist ecological thought with Chinese characteristics. It responds to the ecological governance difficulties in the process of China’s modernization as well as global ecological problems. It mainly include the establishment of an ecological governance system with the core of sustainable development, the use of legal systems to promote environmental governance, the implementation of the most stringent ecological environmental protection system, and the use of strict legal systems to ensure ecological governance, which will lead to the overall promotion of the domestic rule of law and foreign-related rule of law. It has important theoretical and practical value to seek the path of global ecological civilization construction. It is necessary to scientifically advance ecological protection legislation, pay attention to publicity and education, to strictly implement the ecological protection legal system,strengthen ecological protection and ecological restoration, and to practice the responsibilities and missions as a major country, so as to actively promote international cooperation in ecological governance and implement Xi Jinping’s thought on the ecological rule of law theory.
