As the third novel in the 21st century,Yu Hua’s Wencheng is a significant work that represents a stylistic transition in his writing career.The novel narrates the return and reconstruction process of an avant-garde grower’s self-subjectivity,and completes the profound revelation of historical reflection by employing the narrative of cultural roots and revolutionary imagination as the symbolic meaning of the inverted behavior.However,the retreat of this cultural avant-garde narrative is not free of problems in the nostalgic imagination and the illusion of the hometown complex,for it shows the value shift of saving the reality from the national history when it comes to the public narrative of complex social reality.
