An archaeological culture, characterized by shaft tombs, extended burials with tomb occupants’heads oriented north, and grave goods predominated by wheel-thrown red pottery such as jars with single or double handles,goblets,ring-footed bowls, etc.,spanned north Bactria from the late 2^(nd) century BC through the 1st century AD.It is obviously distinct from other contemporary archaeological cultures in adjacent regions.According to its tempo-spatial distribution, cultural attributes, and exotic elements, this archaeological culture accords with the Great Yuezhi of Central Asia recorded in historical texts, and thus can be named the Yuezhi culture. The Yuezhi culture is distinct from the early Kushan culture characterized by aboveground niche tombs and Kushan remains;however, both archaeological cultures also share commonalities and connections.
