A Review of the Studies on “Lotus” Culture During the Past 40 Years

“莲”文化是中国花卉文化的重要组成部分,20世纪80年代以来已成为花卉文化研究中的一个特殊存在。“莲”文化研究可分为奠基、发展、深化三个阶段,对“莲”文化进行溯源可自生殖崇拜始,并以此为基点不断演变并且逐步深化,揉入了儒家、道家、佛教各自的宗教内涵,具有浓厚的哲学、宗教意味。莲的美学蕴涵伴随着宗教蕴涵产生,形成了特殊的审美风尚和理想人格,这一理想人格在宋代得到了确立。周敦颐的《爱莲说》确立了“君子莲”的理想人格,是“莲”文化在哲学、宗教与美学三个方面的综合体现。

“Lotus”culture is an important part of Chinese flower culture.Since the 1980s,it has become a special existence in the flower culture research.The studies on“Lotus”culture can be divided into three stages namely the stage of foundation,development and deepening.The origin of“Lotus”culture can be traced from the beginning of the reproductive worship.Based on this,it will continue to evolve and gradually deepen.Integrated with Confucianism,Taoism and Buddhism,the“Lotus”culture has a strong philosophical and religious meaning.The aesthetic implication of“lotus”was accompanied by the religious implication,and formed a special aesthetic style and ideal personality,which was established in Song Dynasty.Zhou Dunyi’s Ode to the Lotus Flower established the ideal personality of the“Gentlemen Lotus”,which was the comprehensive embodiment of the“Lotus”culture in the aspects of philosophy,religion and aesthetics.
