Financial Technology Innovation and Urban Environmental Pollution

摘要 金融科技创新是金融与科技深度融合的结果,可能对地方绿色经济发展产生重要影响。本文基于中国285个城市的面板数据,实证研究金融科技创新对城市环境污染的影响及其作用机制。研究结果表明,金融科技创新具有减排效应,能够抑制城市环境污染;并且金融科技创新的减排效应在重污染城市显著强于轻度污染城市,在中西部城市显著强于东部城市,在科教资源质量较低的城市显著强于科教资源质量较高的城市,在外围城市显著强于中心城市。机制研究发现,金融科技创新会通过促进城市科技创新特别是绿色技术创新进而促进城市减排。因此,应当以金融科技创新为支撑,深化金融业供给侧结构性改革,提高金融服务实体经济创新发展和绿色发展的能力;因地制宜采取多样化的政策措施促进金融科技朝着绿色化方向发展,尤其是对于金融科技发展较为滞后以及金融科技创新减排效应相对较弱的地区,更要强化对绿色金融发展的政策支持和引导,最大化金融科技创新的减排效应。 Financial technology(Fintech) innovation is the result of the deep integration of finance and technology, which has an important impact on the development of local green economy. Based on the panel data of 285 cities in China, this paper empirically analyzes the impact of financial technology innovation on urban environmental pollution and its mechanism. The results show that financial technology innovation exhibits the effect of emission reduction and can inhibit urban environmental pollution. Moreover, the emission reduction effect of financial technology innovation is significantly stronger in heavily polluted cities than in lightly polluted cities, stronger in central and western cities than in eastern cities, stronger in cities with low quality of science and education resources than in cities with high quality of science and education resources, and stronger in peripheral cities than in central cities. The mechanism analysis shows that financial technology innovation can promote urban technology innovation, especially green technology innovation, and then promote urban emission reduction. Therefore, we should take financial technology innovation as the pillar, deepen the supply side structural reform of the financial industry, and improve the ability of financial services to promote the innovation and green development of the real economy. We should take diversified policies and measures to maximize the emission reduction effect of financial technology innovation.
