The Image Changes and Interpretation of King Cheng of Zhou in the Pre-Qin and Han Dynasties

先秦两汉时期,周成王的形象变迁较为复杂。其具体表现是,周成王的不同形象渐次生成于西周至西汉初期,并在两汉时期的政局变动和学术交锋中,往往基于不同的利益诉求而呈现为“襁褓”亦或“贤主”等不同形象。这启示我们,在古史研究中不仅不能忽视不同叙事背后的主观因素,而且应该通过不断揭示史料的复杂性来重新认识古史的复杂性成因。

During the pre-Qin and Han dynasties,the image changes of King Cheng of Zhou were more complex.The different images of King Cheng of Zhou Dynasty were gradually generated from the Western Zhou Dynasty to the early Western Han Dynasty.In the political changes and academic confrontation in the Han Dynasty,he often appeared as“swaddling clothes”or“virtuous master”based on different interest demands.This enlightens us that in the study of ancient history,we should not only not ignore the subjective factors behind different narratives,but also re understand the causes of the complexity of ancient history by constantly revealing the complexity of historical materials.
