Justus von Liebig is the founder of the Giessen School far⁃famed in modern chemistry history.He taught at Giessen University in Germany for more than 20 years.In his academic career,Liebig played many roles,such as scholar,professor and leader of a school of thought,in each of which he made great achievements.As a scholar,he pioneered a new field of chemical research and made major contributions to organic chemistry and applied chemistry.As a professor,he devised the modern laboratory⁃oriented chemistry teaching method,combining teaching with scientific research,and cultivated a large number of outstanding chemists.As a leader,he started the Giessen School,the first scientific school in modern history,which made Giessen University renowned as a model institution for modern chemistry education.Liebig’s academic identities exemplifies the connotation of an outstanding university teacher.His scientific spirit,educational commitment and cooperative effort set a good model for contemporary university teachers.
