The Shiyanghe River basin is one of the core areas of ecological protection in China. The grassland was the largest land use type in the basin. In order to get the current situation of grassland resources in the Shiyanghe River basin, grassland area, productivity, grade and degradation was investigated and evaluated, based on the third national land survey and the second survey of grassland resources in Gansu province, using spatial overlay analysis and supplementary field investigation method. The result showed that the grassland resources in the Shiyanghe River basin were divided into 5 categories and 30 types, with a total area of 1215523.87 hm^(2).The annual yield of grass was 18.28×10^(8)kg,and the yield of temperate steppe was the highest, accounting for 33.46%of the total yield of grass in the whole basin. The overall quality of grassland resources in the Shiyanghe River basin was lower than medium, and it was mainly composed ofⅤ,Ⅲ,Ⅳand 6,7,8 grades. The degraded grassland area was 971458.29 hm^(2),accounting for 79.92%of the total grassland area in the whole basin,of which the slightly degraded grassland accounted for 14.01%,moderate degradation accounted for 33.63%,severe degradation accounted for 32.28%.
