在传播学领域,英尼斯的媒介研究具有开疆辟土的价值,但他的著作以卷帙浩繁的文献数据与晦涩难懂的文风而著称,呈现出一种不确定性特征。但正是这种不确定性,为后人的解读预留空间。重读英尼斯传播研究三部曲,梳理媒介技术与地理、宗教、文化习俗等因素之互动,回应学界“媒介决定论”之争议,分析英尼斯在媒介研究中对技术理性、时间观念等现代性批判的面向,运用媒介偏向论探析他较少关注的日常交往议题与相对忽视的“中华帝国”的稳定性问题,这或能够补充与拓展对英尼斯传播思想的认识,也能准确地标定英尼斯在媒介环境学派乃至传播学史上的地位。

In the field of communication,Innis’media research is of great value.Innis’works are famous for their voluminous literature data and obscure style of writing,showing a kind of uncertainty.But it is precisely this uncertainty that has reserved space for future interpretations of his theory.Rereading the trilogy of Innis’studies on communication,reviewing the interaction between media and geography,religion,cultural customs and other factors,responding to the controversy of“media determinism”in academic circles,analyzing the three aspects of criticism of modernity in Innis’media studies:technical rational criticism,human subjectivity reflection and modern time-concept criticism,using the theory of media bias to analyze the daily communication issues that he paid little attention to and the stability of the“Chinese Empire”that he relatively neglected,all of these may supplement and deepen the understanding of Innis’communication thoughts,and more accurately define his position in the school of media environment and even the history of communication studies.
