Yang Shoujing’s Ideas on Calligraphy and Their Spread in Japan

晚清学者杨守敬在金石学及书学领域造诣深厚,成果卓著,驻日期间与日本书界进行了深度的交流,对日本书道影响深远。论文通过梳理杨守敬碑帖并尊书学理念形成的脉络及其携带至日的书学文献,考察杨氏向日本书界推介的复兴古法的书学知识;结合日本友人的相关记述探讨杨氏在日交流的书学思想,包括金石碑版的鉴别和经典书作的评价,及其金石著作的出售和借阅等活动,帮助日本书界拓展碑学书法的新维度;从与之相关的著述出版和日本书道发展历史考察杨守敬书学理念的在日接受情况,凭借金石著述的大量出版和与友人讨论书道笔谈的发表,杨守敬的金石学知识和碑帖融合书学思想得到广泛传播,助推日本书道的转型与发展,促进了中日文化的交流。

Yang Shoujing was a scholar in the late Qing dynasty who had made outstanding achievements in epigraphy and calligraphy. During his stay in Japan, he had in-depth exchanges with the Japanese calligraphy circles and had far-reaching influences on Japanese calligraphy.Through an analysis of the development of Yang’s philosophy of giving equal importance to stele and model calligraphy and the literature on calligraphy that he brought to Japan, this paper investigates the knowledge of "reviving the ancient method" introduced by Yang to the Japanese calligraphy circles. Referring to relevant accounts by Japanese friends, the current author also discusses Yang’s ideas on calligraphy that he exchanged with Japanese scholars, including the identification of steles and inscriptions, evaluation of classical calligraphic works and the selling and borrowing of his works. This expanded new dimensions of the Japanese calligraphy circles on stele and calligraphy.The acceptance of Yang’s ideas on calligraphy in Japan is further investigated, based on related publications and the development history of Japanese calligraphy. With the massive publication of epigraphic works and discussions on calligraphy with friends, Yang’s knowledge on epigraphy and philosophy on stele and model calligraphy were widely disseminated, which promoted the transformation and development of Japanese calligraphy as well as the Sino-Japanese cultural exchange.
