Hamlet is one of the prestigious plays of Shakespeare and also represents the highest glory in playwriting of Renaissance England, and there are numerous studies on it.In Hamlet, different images with“mirror”characteristics, not only embody such realistic functions of the“mirror”as reflecting the concrete representation of things and reflecting the authentic looks of people but also have such profound metaphorical meanings as reflecting the human soul.“Mirror”as a metaphor has a long history in Chinese and Western culture. The“mirror”is always used by human beings as an important tool for exploring the self, nature, and society. It can reflect the unpredictable inner world of human beings, the survival of the fittest in nature, and the continuous replacement of society. This paper attempts to find the profound symbolic and cultural meaning it carries through the metaphorical interpretation of the“mirror”.
